Patented Feb. 7, 1933 11896,565 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE NORMAN L. SNOW, OF NEW CANAAN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO DIAMOND POWER SPF@,CIALTY CORPORATION, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION OF XICHIGAN 130ILER CLFANER Application filed Tanuary 28i 1924, Serial No. 689,099. Renewed Tuly 28, 1931., The invention relates to boiler cleaners and refers niore @partici,-Iarly to that type having a bloiver element through which cleanincf fluid is discharged to clean the boiler @U'tes or other parts of the boiler and has for 4@ts object the provision of an improved boiler cleaner of the type mentioned. With the above and other -objects in vie-v@, the invention resides in the n6vel featl,,res of 10 construction and combinations and arrangem, ents of parts as n-iore fully hereinafter set f orth. In the drawings: Figure I is a side elevation partly in sec15 tion of a boiler cleaner embodying my inven-. tion; Figure 2 is an end elev,,ttion thereof Figure 2A is a sectional vienv take]4 substantially on 'uhe line 2A-2A of Figure 1; 20 Fio-ure 3 is a side elevation partly in section of a inodified construction of boiler (,leaner enibodying iny invention; Figure 4 is anend view thereof. As shown in Fi,-ures 1, 2 and 2A, 1 is the 20 r6tatable bloiver eleiuent or pipe extending transversely througl-i the boiler ivall 2 and provided Nvith a series of nozzles through which the cleaning fltiid such as steam or the likl3 is discharged t6 clean the boiler tubes or 30 other parts of the boiler. 3 is the go6seneek through ivhlch the cleanino-, fluid i3asses to the blower element, this gooseneck -G'eing con1-iected to the blower element by the usual swivc,l. 4 is the valve within thegooseneck 35 3 and preferably at its lower end, and having the valve steiii 5 extending upwardly throligli the upper wall at the loiver end of the gooseneck-. This valve is normally held sea4.-ed bv ,i suitable means such as the coil 40 spring 6. 7 is a gear operatively connectecl t6 the blower eleiiient to rotate tlie same, and 8 is a pinion iiieshing witl-i the -ear 7 and seetirecl upon the shaft 9, - wnlch latter is j'ournalled in the bearing 10. As shown, the teeth of both the gear and pinion are inclined relative to their respective axes. 11 i-s a, second sl-iaft connected at its upper end to the shaft 9 by the Liniversal joint 12 and having at its lower end a suitable n-lember such as 'o the hand wheel 13 for the ol)erator to grasp. 14 is a cam mounted upon the shaft 15 ivhich is journalled in a stationary bearing. 16 which as sho-wn in the present instance extends transversely f rom th6 -ooseneck 3, the axis of rotati6n of 'the can-i being in @?,Ii@nment with the center line of the universal j o , int and the caiii beino- so positioned that its periphery is engageab@le N@ith the, upper end of the valve stein 5 to depress the saine and tliereby open the valve. 16' is a reinforein& Go@ braclzet hai,ing its one end bifurcated for connection to the sections of the bearino, 16 and hai,ing its other end fixed to the upper end of the goose neck 3. Intermediate its len--th thi-s bracklet is provided -with, the bear- G@ 16" for receiving the blower@ element 1. il@is an arm f6r rot-ating.the cain 14 upon sivingino- of the actuating or second shaft ii.. One endof this arm is secured t6 the shaft 15 and the other end is connected to the actu- @O@ ating shait to swinz there-with but permit rotati6n, thereof about its axis. As sho-wn,, the free end of the arm has the sleeve 18 throti h -vvhich the actuating shaft extend-s. 9 When the blower elemei@t is not in operation, the shaft ii is no"rmally @vertical, at which time the cam 14 pern-iits the valve 4 to be held closed by the coil spring 6. The operator, by -rasping the hand wheel 13 ,Lnd swinging the actuatin(y shaft 11 outwardli, so and away fr6m the boiler wall 2, rotates th@. can-1 14 throu ngin(y _@-h the arm 17, thereby bri ' n the periphery o,-'-' the cam into 61iolagen-ient with the valve stem 5 aiid o eniii(y the valve p 4., Then by rotating the shaft 11-abouf its 85 axi.s, the blower element 1 is rotated through theshaft9,thepinion8andthegear7. After the blow, er element his been. rotated or oscillated tl-ie desired length of time and over the desired range it can be brought back to its 90 starting position and the valve closed by then allowin,9 the shaft 11 to return to its vertical position. In thomodified construction shown 1EL Fio-ures 3 and 4, 19 is the blower element aild 9-' 20 the gooseneek- connected to the blower element b the usual swivel including the swivel y pipe 21., 22 is a frame rotatably inounted iipon the swivel pipe 21 and pr6vided ivitli the laterally extending arm 23 in which is 100'
