Patented Apr. 21, 1931 1 8 0 1 9 9 2 9 UNITED STATES PATENT@ OFF@ICJILPJ HENRY IANGE-, OF QUINCY, ILLINOIS ASII PIT FOR CIEC-ULA ---ING WARM-AIR liEATINd ST(VES Application filed April 4, 1930 Serial. No. 441,615. The @r6sent invention relates tc, improvements in ashpits for citeul@t,ing warin air heating stoves, aiicl has for an obj6ct to provide an improved ashpit construction inhere,5 by the heat -will be deflecte'ddo-wiiwardly to-w,,trd the fl6or and to low points about the, stove. In my years of experience in manuf aettiring c.irculatinoh6aters, I have fo-Ltiid tliat 10 there exists a gener,,tl object, ion to all iiiakes of these heaters because they will not 'heat the floor as well as th@ old type of heatilig stoves that were not encased. The clemand for a cir6tilator that would brin@r tb6tit this i5 condition is becoiuing very E;trong and although attei-ilpts have beeii ma-de to solve this problem, all such 'attempts have so far failed of satisfactory results. It is another object of the present inven20 ti-on to provide.an improved ashpit and eirculator stove construction -whereby the heat from the firepot can be deflected toward the floor in such substantial ineasure thtt it will be felt underneath the stove, as well,as in a 24 limited space adjacent to the stove. The invention further, aims to provide @n struction in -which the standard form of tl-ie heater is retained and in -which by a rear-o rangement of the parts adequate radiation and circulation ire provided. With the foreLy6inz and other objects in vie,w the in ention kvill be described inor6 v partictilarly hereinafter and ivill be more 35 dist-inctly set out in the appended claims. In tlie, dr.a-wino, in -vvhich like p.arts are denoted by similar reference syinbols through-- out the several views Figure I is a fragmentary vertical s,-ction 40 a t ken throuch an im-oroved stove and fire, pot constructed according to the present invention and Fig. 2 is t plaii 7iew of the lo-wer section of the ashpit.@ind th6 deflector member. 45- Referring more p.articularly tb the drawing, 10 designates the firepot wall, and 11 represents tlie firepot li@.iing ring -which extencls belonv the 'wall 10 and above the lo-wer section 12 of the firepot or ashpit. The iiiem50@ bers l@O ancl 11 are j6ined together in any al)- propriat@p, iiianner and are@ preferably of coilical constructioii, the wall 10 being an 111verted frtisti-im-of t cone, while the rino@ 11 is the friistuin or section of an Liprig4t cone. The two -walls 10 aiid 11 thus converge together and foriii iniitual r,,tdiating siirfaces@ lyiiig within the air circulator space of @th6 stove which is confined N@ithin the outer c-asing 14. Ab6ve and exterior of the firepot men-iber 10 is a 'ho6d 15. 1 The air e,,iters through; the lotivre slots 16 in the ivall of the oliter casin,& 14. In accordance with the invention, .,,t de,-@ flector meinber is@ provided in the lower poi-tioii of the stov'e bet-ween, the firepot or aslipit and the exterior casinz 14, and this. deflector member is comprised of an o-Liter part 17 and an iiiner part incltiding slots 18@ and separating ribs @i-9@ whi@,,h supports a, e.ent,r..tl@ ring 20 ada, pted to fit about the upper flanged portion @of the, ashpit section 12. While the@ rino, 20 is circular iii forn@ to a-re I e ivitli t@h6: ashpit construction, as illustrated in;Fig. 2, the 'outer part 17 of the deflector n-lember will be@- tibstantia.Ily square in orcler to coilform to th6 shape of the outer casi ng 14. form6d -with an @ outwqrdly - proj ecting flange 21 at its outorlo-wer @ edge: in order to fit@ aoa,in@t the casing 14:@for clos' th -lowpr ill@g e 'p@rti6n of th@,air chamber l@3. - This'. iiaember -W,q frbii 17 extends upw,%rdly a,nd in rdlv -i the flanze 21, to a. point; ab e an ove th @ fl ge 22 @of the lower ashpit section 12. The . inner part of the.,deflector @slopes- from this ..high poiiit 23:,do,-wnwardly, and iiiwardly to-wa@rd the r,ing 20. The heat reflected froin the liiiiiig ring 11 through the 6peniii(ys 18 will encounter the under side of the imperforate member 17 and be deflected dowiiwardly toward the floor and to the spice about the stove. I By this construction I scciii-e a direct deflection of the he,,tt from the firepot tonvard the floor. The iiew construction of ashpit provides the exteiisioi-i or deflector iiieiiibcr on three or foiir sides whereby to form a separate opeii air chaiinel next to the firepot. Tllis open channel follows al-i upward course substantially parallel to the firepot proper. This channel extends -,7ery close to the source of the he,,tt as is esseiitial to the successful ivoi, kin(r of the den, ice. Another feature of the constructioil is the creating of two separate chaiinels in the space I>etweeii the ashpit and the outer casing. In other words, there i.- ,Ln open space pext to the firepot foi- the purpose of deflect?,i@ ing the heat. The solid extension 17 directs the incoming cold air recei-,,ed tlirou-h the louvres 16 of the outer casiiio, int6 the air flue with final outlet through the open t,c)p register of the heat cabinet. !,'o Having tlius described the invention, what is
