Patented Mar. 24, 1931 1 9 7 9 7 @ 9 7 1 UNITED STATES PATEN T O F F I C E @ VE3ELN WYSONG, OF PERU, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR TO PERU, 3,3AS3KE-T Co., OF,P=U, INDIANA, A CORPORATION OF INDIANA IF.ONING 330"3) Application liled lanuary 10, 1930. Serial No. @419,958.@ My invention relates to ironinr boa-,ds and it is the object of the invention to provide an iroiain(y board having riovel features of construct'l@'on and inexpensive to manufacture. A'further object is to produce an ironing board wbich can be opened in a simi)le oeir rlg @ ation and wlien opened constitutes a board without bracings on the legs that heretofore have been necessary. 10 Referring to the accompanying drawings which are made a part hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar I)arts, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my invention i5 in open position, Fl,-ure 2, a bottom plan view showing -the ironing board folded, and Figure 3, a cross-sectional view on line 3-3 of Figure 1. 20 In the drawing reference character 10 indicates the table portion of an ironing board of conventional sbape having sectired to the bottom parallel to the large end of the table portion a clevis 11 provided with a pluralitv 25 of depeiiding lugs 12 and 13. A pair of leol t' 14 is pivotally secured to the inner pair of depending lugs 12 and a pair of braces 15 is pivotally secured at one end to the other deriending lugs 13 and the lower ends pivotally,' so fixed to the outside of its corresponding le@, in such a manner as to permit the legs 14 to be folded against the board. A second pair of braces 16 is pivotally fixed to the inside of the legs 14 and extends diagonally toward 35 the center of the board when in open position. The fre@6 ends 17 of the braces 16 are swin@ingly corinected by a U-shaped hook 18 'V is slidably secur'ed to the boar@d portion by means of a long metal strip 19 fixed at 40 each end to the under side of the board. The undersides of the leg braces 16 are also connected by a slotted inetal band 20 which allows the braces 16 and also the legs 14 to spread when the board is opened and acts as 45 a closing device on the legs when collapsed. A third leg 21 is pivotally secured to a pair of depending luos 22 iiear the center of the board between t]@e braces 16 and the band 20 contact of the slotted band 20 a metal plate 23 is fixed to the- leg. ' At -the pivoted end of the leg 21 and back of the lugs 22 a strip 24 is secured on wbich the end of the leg may rest removing unnecesgary strain on the lugs 't' and tendin(r to strencthen the board. @ In or der to hol(fthe leg 2"I in open posi ion a reenf(ireed -notch.25 is@ located near the free end on the upper side of the leg -into which the brace rod-26@enters' The said brace rod 26is pivotally hinoed - by loops 27-at the clevis 11. The brace rod is prevented, from becoming displaced bv a metal strip 28 secured above the notch @5 which permits the brace to slide and of such a length as to allow closiiig and opening of the board. 'A bar 29 is pivoted at its center on the leg 21 and serves as a latch to hold the legs ih folded position as shown in Fi(ru@e 2. It will be ocviousto those skilled in;the 7o art that various, chailges may be made in my devi ce witbout departing f@om the spirit oi the invention and therefore I do not limit myq elf to what is shown in the drawings and des cribed in the specification, but only as in- 75 dica ted in the appended claims. Having thus fiilly described my said invent ion'., -what I claim as new and desire to sec ure by
