Patented Sept. 16, 1930 117769056 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE FRIEDRICH WILHELM WEI-IMANN ANDI ERNST RUBEN DAHLSTROM, OF STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN, ASSIGNORS TO ARTIE330LAGET FORXATOR, OF STOCYHOLM, SWEDEN, A COP.PORATION MACHINE FOR STRIPPING TOBACCO LEAVES Application filed September 13,1926, Serial No. 135,237, and iii Sweden Maroh 11, 1926. The present invention refers to tobacco stripping machines -of the type having a 0-ripper or the like adapted to seize the stem pref erably at some distance from the point of the leif, and further having a device for gri]ppin-a the leaf, the arrangement being uu slich tl@'at the stem is pulled or ' rued out f@om the leaf pi-actically iii the same manner as when stripping by hand. 10 The object of the invention is to provi,de means -whereby a more effective and good stripping is obtained than by machines Df said type hitherto known. The invention is illustrated in the accom15 paiilying drawings. Fig. 1 shows the entire ma@@ine as viewed from the side. Fig. 2 shows the machine as viewed from above. Fig. 3 shows a leaf which has been entirely stripped by cutting o:ff the stem, and Fig. 4 2o sh6ws the same leaf in a h,,ilf-stripped condition upon tearing. Figs,. 5 and 6 illustrate certain parts of the machine as viewed from the side an(i partly in sectiori. Fig. 7 discloses the pincers and adjacent parts in a 25 front view and partly in section, the machine being in its starting position, in which the pincers are operi. Fig. 8 shows a tobacco leaf threaded over the pincers, the shanks of which have penetrated through the leaf s.o 3o as to be situated each on one side of the stem. Fig. 9 shows the pincers and adjacent parts in t front view, the pincers beino, closed and ssuming corre@-pZi-iding posithe, other parts a tions. Fig. 10 shows the tobacco leaf after 35 the pincers have been closed and after ,t knife connected to the one shank of the iiieers has p cut off the stem. I and 2 designates two shanks, one of which 1 is rigidly connected with the, holder 3 of the pincers, -while the other 2 is swinzable ,tbout a sh,,tft 4 attached to the holder 3. The pincers will opeii (Fio-s. 7-8) whel'i the arm 5 ' which is rigiclly coi@nected with the shank 2, is brought into eneagement with the catch -15 6 on return of the 'p-@iiieers into the start-ing position, said catch 6 extendiiig from the oiae arm of a lever pivotally attachecl to the rigid stipport 7, the otlier arin 8 of the said lever being pivotally connected ivith the ptilling .50 rod 9. The pincers will close (Figs. 9 and 10) when the catch 6 is moved from the arm 5 through the actuation of -t treadle 60, Fig. 1, which is connected with the pullina rod 9, the closing force being then produc@d by a spring 10. 55 Th e tobacco leaf 11 is moved do-wn over the pincers, when the latter occupy @he posi tion shown in Figs. 2, 5 and 7, that is to say wh en they project throuoh a reces,,@ in the tabl e 13 and the shanks @'of the pincers are 60 sepa ratecl. Themachineisthenatrest. Immecl iately after the leaf has been positione-d the stia-ie, then reLtin(,Y Oil tile 'L-able and extendi ng with its fore-part over a part of the endl ess belt line 16, which accordinu to the 65 sho wn embodiiiient consists of four Eelts arrang ed in flush and p,,trallel with each ot-her, the machine is started by actuation of the trea dle 60, whereby the main shaft 17 and the parts mounted thereon are caused to to- 70 tate by a coupling in known manner, while thek nife 14 attached t6 the shank 1 is caus6d to cut off the stem 15 at -,t point situated at a suita ble clistance from the point Df the leaf. The belts 16 extending about ,t drum 18 at- 75 tach ed to the .zhaft 17, for which belts there is provided a pulley 19 near the pincers, will then move in the direction of the arrow 20 (Fig' 1) from the pincers toward the drum 18. In addition to the belt line formed by 50 the belts 16, there is aiiother endless belt line 21 which is . extended abotit the rolls 22 and 23 aiad the lower part of -which serves as a carr ying member for the tobacco leaf. The roll 22 is journalled in two arms 24 fast on 85 the shaft 25 of the other roll 23. Moreover, ther o is attached to the latter shaft an arm 26 cooperatino@ with a cam disk 27 seciired 'Lo the shaft 11, so that the roll and the belt line 21 will be alternately n-ioved up and 90 doiv n. The belt line 21 receives its motion ,,boti t the pulleys providecl therefor by the roll 23 (and, in a lowered position, also the belt line 11)@1) bearino- on the belt line 16 and tlie bretk r'DII 28, wfi'ich is adjustably mount- 95 ed so that it may be ti(yhtened up against the roll 23, more or less, a@-desired. The pincers arE@ , kept vertically while being in the upper position (Fig. 5). This is effe cted by the f ollowing means. 100
