An electric switch, in particular a steering column switch for motor vehicles, comprises a switch element (11) mounted so as to move, preferably by rotation, between several positions in a housing (10), a locking lever (23) which can be
swivelled against the force of springs (36), and locking elements consisting of a locking curve (20) and a locking cam (22) which rests against the latter. One locking element, in particular the locking curve, is located on the locking lever and the
other on the switch element. When the switch element is adjusted, the springs can be moved along the locking lever together with the locking element on the switch element, thus equalizing the different switching torques between the various
positions.
